GCA #94 - The Fruits of Summer!!

Hello all!!!  I hope you are having a wonderful beginning to your summer season.  As you know, June 21st was the official start of summer.  Except I think Mother Nature has gotten a little ahead of herself!  Here in Michigan we've had some horribly hot and humid days already.

Last night I was creating a swap card with the same sketch I used for my card for the GCA.  It is SC285 over on SCS.  The sketch calls for squares, but I used circles instead.  So, as I was creating my swap card I thought how my Tart & Tangy set would look on here.  And, voila, GCA #94 was born!

On this card I used a combination of new and old products.  The stamp set, Tart & Tangy, has been out for awhile, but is still one of my faves, especially this time of year.  The strawberry was colored with the new Riding Hood Red marker and Garden Green.  On the apple I used the new In-Color marker, Pear Pizazz and Chocolate Chip.  The orange slice was stamped in Pumpkin Pie.

Each of the stamps were first stamped in Crumb Cake and then the colored pieces were cut out and popped up with a dimensional.  On the strawberry circle I used the new 2 3/8" scallop circle in Pumpkin Pie and then used my other circle punches for the rest.

On the background piece I layered a piece of the new In-Color, Poppy Parade onto Very Vanilla.  The Poppy Parade layer was run through my Lattice Square eb folder.  I then used the flower strip from the new Level 1 hostess set, Because I Care, along the the top and bottom edges.  The red polka-dotted ribbon is retiring, but I thought looked perfect with this card.  I used my "It's Your Birthday" set for the sentiment, which was punched out with the 1" circle and stamped in Riding Hood Red.  I sponged the edges with the new Crumb Cake.

A lot of dimension going on here too!!  The background panel is up with dimensionals, as is each of the circles.

So, for the challenge this week you need to use some sort of fruit item on your creation.  It can single fruits like I used, or a combination image or an image of someone carrying a fruit basket.  Whatever kind of fruit image you have, go for it!!

Upload your creation to either your blog or to an online gallery and post a link to your creation to this blog entry by July 3, 2010 at 12 midnight. I will choose the winner the next day. If you upload your card to SCS, PaperCraft Planet, Stampin' Addicts or Stamp TV, please put GCA94 in your keywords. That way everyone can see all of the wonderful creations at once!

Even if you can't make the drawing deadline, PLEASE feel free to participate in the challenges and upload your creations at any time. I would love to see it! And yes, my challenge is open to everyone who visits, even if you live outside the US!

Happy Stamping!!!

GCA #93 - It's a Man's World!!

Hello all!!!  Happy Father's Day to all those deserving and hardworking fathers.  Whether you be a dad, grandpa or a father figure mentor, you are needed!

In honor of Father's Day today, the challenge for this week is to create a manly card.  This could be a birthday card, anniversary card, scrapbook page or whatever, just have it fit for a man.

My sample for you is a scrapbook page I made in honor of my son.  Last (2009) spring he was featured in the neighbors section of our town newspaper for his music.  Pictured with him is Malaki at 3 months old.

I wasn't ever quite sure how I was going to put this page together, but once I found this dotted dsp, it just sort of fell together.  I did have to cut up the article, which my son freaked out over, but it was the only way I could mount it on the page.

My base is 12 x 12 Really Rust textured and layered with the polka dotted dsp.  Not sure who makes it.  Some of the dots have a glossy feel to them.  The main picture and title are matted on Old Olive and the article portion is on Cool Caribbean.  I used my Really Rust marker to color the chipboard comma's and the watch parts are by Tim Holtz.

GCA #92 - It's a Sketch!!

Hello all!!  I just spent a wonderful afternoon with my club girls, and I just HAD to show them the new catalog!!!  I am super excited about what is to come, and if you need one, you better contact your demo right away!

Since I am soooo excited about the new catalog coming out, I used one of the new sets we could pre-order.  This set is called Artistic Etchings.  I can't show you all of the images, but you see 3 of them on the front of  this card.  Doesn't it remind you of Paris back in the 40's era?  And the new dsp, Newsprint, is to die for!!!

For this card I used Basic Black textured, cut to 3.5 x 7.  Haven't made a longer type card in awhile and I really like how this turned out.  I used a strip of the Newsprint dsp, tore the right edge off, wadded and crumpled it out, flattened it out and inked the edges with black staz on.  I tried to be careful when I adhered it to the card so I didn't flatten it out too much.

The Eiffel Tower is stamped in the new Cherry Cobbler and the medallion brooch is in Daffodil Delight, stamped off once.  Then I lightly spritzed the panel with the Silver Smooch spray.  The "Amour" is stamped in black staz on onto Daffodil Delight.  I used my distressor tool on the Daffodil Delight and inked the edges with black.  This panel is up on dimensionals.  A mini library clip with a piece of the new 1/8" black taffeta finishes off the card.

For the inside I cut a piece of Very Vanilla to 3 x 6.  I wanted to have that frame of black around it.  I used the torn strip from the front piece on the edge, stamped the medallion in Daffodil Delight, the crown in Cherry Cobbler and the key in black.  The sentiment is from the new Level 3 hostess set, Occasional Quotes.

So, for this week's challenge:  Use the sketch/layout of my card front to create your project.  It does not have to be a long card.  It can be a scrapbook page, card or whatever, as long as you follow the basic layout.  Feel free to flip the layout if that works better for you.

Upload your creation to either your blog or to an online gallery and post a link to your creation to this blog entry by June 19, 2010 at 12 midnight. I will choose the winner the next day. GCA #91 - Where the Butterflies Are.

Hello all!!!  Another week has gone by and I spent time playing with my new goodies.  I have lots more to show you this week.

Butterflies are everywhere and one of my favorites.  They can be so beautiful with their unusual colors and designs, it just amazes me.

This week, you need to have a butterfly somewhere on your creation.  It can be stamped, on dsp, a die cut or made with ribbon.  However you decide to include a butterfly, at least one must be on your creation.

My sample for you uses the Beautiful Wings embosslit from SU!  This is the largest of the butterflies and was cut/embossed from Sweet Pea dsp.

The card was put together using all scraps from my stash!  I love it when I can do that!!  The card base is Kiwi Kiss and folded at the top.  Layered with White, and the layout is from the Stampin' Connection weekly sketch challenge.  I ran the Chocolate Chip piece through my Big Shot with the lattice eb folder and punched the edge with the scallop trim border punch.  The strip of Ruby Red dsp comes from the Write Stuff speciality dsp.

For the center of the butterfly I punched the scallop circle from the Bitty punches and topped it with one of the clear bitty scallop circle buttons.  The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes.

Thank You in Sketches - Sneak Peek goodies!!!

Hello all!!!  I received my sneak peek goodies yesterday and put together two cards yesterday.  LOVE what I ordered so far.  Not a lot of time to play yet, but I will this weekend!

This is using the new set "Studio Sketches" from the sneak peek. The sentiment is using the new Level 3 hostess, a partial. I used the Early Espresso marker to ink up the thank you.

I stamped the image in the new Early Espresso on watercolor paper and used my aquapainter to "smear" the ink. Watercoloring is not my strong point, so I almost didn't order this set. But, I am glad I did.

The pears were colored with the new Pear Pizazz marker, cut out and popped up.

The base card is Crumb Cake and the other colors I used are Pear Pizazz, Peach Parfait and Early Espresso.

The sentiment is from the new Level 3 hostess set, Occasional Quotes.  I used my Early Espresso marker to color just the thank you portion.

Happy Stamping!!!!
